Our Analysis: The LifeSpan TR 1200i folding treadmill is the winner of two prominent awards, including the Treadmill Doctor “Best Buy Award” for Best New Treadmill, and the Fitness Professor “Head of the Class” treadmill under $1000 for 2011. Behind the flashy reviews is a loyal fan base who raves about the intuitive features that the 1200i has to offer.

Users of the LifeSpan treadmill enjoy the multi-colored LCD screen. The soft-touch buttons on either side of the screen allow for adjustment of the treadmill speed, incline and other settings without interrupting the workout. Unlike some treadmill consoles which can wobble around with each step, the LifeSpan’s console is reported to be very sturdy. Seventeen different workout programs take you through a variety of different workout routines by varying the incline and speed of the belt automatically. Each of the programs guides you through 20 segments, each with their own incline and speed level. These programs cover areas such as Sports Training, Healthy Living, Heart Rate and Weight Loss. Every 20 seconds, the computer logs the following helpful information about your session: Calories, Distance, Time, Steps Taken, Heart Rate, Incline Level and Speed.

The LifeSpan treadmill offers a special mode called “My Zone” which consists of a heart rate control program and 2 custom programs. The heart rate control program alters the settings on the treadmill to keep your heart rate at a constant level for the duration of the routine. The My Zone Interval mode allows users to keep their heart rate between a chosen minimum and maximum level.

The belt system is powered by a 2.5 horsepower electric motor which users say is very quiet. At 20 inches wide, the belt is slightly wider than other treadmills, which provides more space to drift. Users love the built-in suspension system which reduces impact pressure on the joints with every step.

The LifeSpan TR 1200i is ideal for use in spall spaces because it can be folded up into a compact shape. The LifeSpan will actually fold down automatically using internal springs. People who have used this folding treadmill have mostly good things to say about the initial assembly. Some people have found it difficult to attach the wiring from the computer to the treadmill base. However, the fact that the unit comes almost fully assembled makes this problem look trivial.

Few treadmills offer a way for users to stay motivated on a day-to-day basis. When you purchase the LifeSpan TR 1200i folding treadmill, you will receive a LifeSpan Fitness Club membership. After each workout session, you can download data from the treadmill to the included USB thumb drive and upload it to the LifeSpan online network. The online Interactive Health Partner and health management program allows users to view health results, manage fitness goals, and obtain motivational support as you work along. During the initial setup, users enter personal information such as gender, height, weight and age. This allows the system to generate accurate reports based which are highly personalized. Additional accounts can be purchased for other family members, but your first one is free. Users really do love this aspect of LifeSpan treadmill ownership.

LifeSpan includes a lifetime warranty on the frame/motor, a 3 year warranty on parts, and 1 year warranty on labor.
